Lorcan Williams, Conditional Jump Jockey

Age: 19
Based: Somerset (Paul Nicholls)
Riding Career: In his second season as a Conditional, he’s ridden 40 winners with his biggest success to date coming in April 2019 when he rode a treble for Paul Nicholls at Fontwell Park.

Originally from West Wales, Lorcan was a successful point-to-point jockey on the point of turning professional and only 18 when he had a collision after falling asleep at the wheel in August 2017.  Unfortunately, a motorcyclist was injured and Lorcan ended up with a suspended two year sentence, lost his licence for 2 years and had to do 150 hours unpaid work.  He received unwavering support from his family and the Nicholls team and he has managed to keep his career on track despite not being able to drive.  His story highlights the risks of driving when tired and gives advice to jockeys who do huge amounts of driving, often when feeling tired.
